Sonic Prime Mini Figures & Small Line Action Figures Page 2
|
||||||||||||
| The CG animated Sonic Prime debut on Netflix in 2023. The show's theme is different dimensions, where in each one, all the characters and locations are very different. Sonic has to put back together mystical crystal shards to stop Eggman from taking everything over. Each dimension has the familiar cast of characters, but they have different costumes, settings and personalities. This is, of course, 'prime' for toys and merchandise because of all the variations. Naturally, there are several of Eggman too, and he is always up to making more gimmicks and robots along the way. The figures here should be considered WORLD items, so the individual entries should list where they should be able to be bought. It's likely USA will have the most, but it's sure not the only place. Because Prime is different enough than modern/classic and games contexts, its items will be cordoned off onto Prime Pages. |

PMI keeps going with more mini figures, but don't mistake these for what was in those 'crystal blindbox' packages: what's in these purple spheres are action-ish figures. The sphere is shrink wrapped with Sonic Prime graphics and says "1 Action Figure Pack" On this wave, there are 8 to collect with 2 that are less common than others (very annoying) Each sphere is a blindbox, and has 1 figure, 1 stand and 1 color photo checklist inside. | |||||||||||

| Being a small/mini-figure that's relativly inexpensive, the action part is the hip/both at once/legs aren't separate, the shoulders and you can turn his head, and that's it. That's still...almost as much articulation as the small Jakks line though...so they're not doing too badly. As with other PMI small items, all the paint applications won't be there (notice missing detail on his shoes, etc) because they are budget. The other figures you can get are shown on the sheet (the other side is just a large Sonic portrait) You can get Tails Nine, Gnarly Knuckles Boscage, Rebel Rouge, Boscage Thorn Rose, Mr Dr Eggman, this New Yoke Sonic here, and Boscage Sonic and Dr Deep's mecha-suit are the 2 rare ones. Beating the blindbox? Blind boxes are annoying for collectors and great for irritating scalpers...so is there a way to beat the box? Well, Dr Deep's item is going to be by far the heaviest item, but you'd need to bring a scale into the store to start weighing these to find out. The sphere makes it difficult to store, and the shrink wrap effectively prevents peeking. What is wrong with simply selling people what they want to buy? |

| These have been spotted at Kohls stores (in toys area), and 5 Below (in blindbox tray area) so far. They're a summer 2024 item, and should be about 4 dollars each. They're not a bad little toy at all for the price, the 'action' pose-ability is decent, and what paint apps they do have seem well done. The character selection makes a lot of sense, but there's no reason to have annoying 'rares' if you already don't get to choose which character. |

Here is the No Place Pirate set MIB (seen as prototype on page 1) as it looks on store shelves. With this you get Batten Rouge, Sails Tails, of course No Place gear Sonic, 2 cutlass style pirate swords, a cannon with action feature and the blue shard. So where's Captain Knuckles? That figure is off with the ship, so he's liable to end up uncommon. (Why exclude him? They have obviously ZERO problems with making people buy figures twice, so just include him in this and have like a different version with the ship or something. This ones' an odd choice.) |

| The 3rd type of blindboxed mini figure gimmick item appears: The Chaos Capsule This egg shaped item is definetely something for the Chaos Council, and inside it could have 1 of 8 different figures. There are 3 good guys (Heroes) and 3 badguys to get (Chaos) In the store, it's closed by a Prime branded shrink wrap that's deliberately difficult to remove, so at least this item is secure/you can be sure you'll get an unopened one. For this, the top cap thing flips open for an extra surprise. Inside is a sticker specific to the figure, the pamphlet, and 2 paper packaged items. (Good to see them using paper instead of plastic) In one is the figure, the other has its base. In this case, Dr. Deep and his edgy mech suit is who came out. He gets a "Dr Deep" logo sticker with his portrait, and the Egg logo is on his base. The figure isn't pose-able. The item in the top is a flat/layered rubber item (like the nice keychains) however...what is it? It's some egg...something...but it wasn't in the show? There's a hang-loop at the top so you're obviously supposed to collect it onto a keychain or something. The pamphlet shows you can get Shadow, Tails9, Sonic figure 8, Knuckles, or Amy, Dr. Deep, Dr. Babble, or the Eggrobo equivelent the Chaos Council made. Opinion Zone: They're improving- Better packaging ensures you don't get to the aisle with them all opened like the poorly crystals. Dr. Babble never gets any merchandise, is this his first thing? (No he isn't cool and he's annoying but that was the point of him). Did the items need to be packaged inside the package? Indeed what IS the keychain? Labeling it 'heroes' vs 'chaos' shouldn't it be the other way around?...in everything else Sonic, the 'chaos' side is usually good...the Egg/whatever is usually all about control (rule the world, robots only do what eggman wants, he controls all) while the heroes use the chaos emeralds to break away from his attempts. So them calling themselves the Chaos Council when what they want is the opposite of chaos, it is control. |

More figures just seem to keep coming, but take note: these are NOT Jakks pacific. They're by PMI. They're about the 3 inch line size, but they are less articulated. There's a hinge for the waist so both legs only move together. They're similar to the figures in the blind box balls by the same company. (Seen at the top of this page) but they're larger and with more complicated sculpts/paint applications. This box is 'series 2' and has 4 of the 8 available figures on the wave to collect. It's No Place Pirates themed, and gives you the 2 cutlass Tails, where he doesn't have that odd 3rd arm extension device. Sonic IS wearing the hat, it just can't be seen with how the box is. The box back doesn't label the figures and doesn't make clear who is in the other box. |

| The answer is Tails 9, new Yoke Sonic, the Eggman mech, and Shadow. These apparently didn't do well because the only place they're reported being found is Ross and TJMaxx/Marshalls stores which are clearing stores. | ||||||||||||
