Prototype Sonic Items Title
What about Sonic items that have not been made yet? Or things that NEVER got made?
It's time for prototypes & mock ups! All the things on this page are Sonic items which are NOT yet released, or are items which were NEVER released. If something doesn't ever get produced, it'll stay here forever, for you to see and read about it. Also included on the page are 'mock ups' which are not real items. They're an illustration created by a company to show what a final item would look like. Sometimes they're Photoshops, others are combination of art and photos. A mock up never becomes real itself...but the item it illustrates is often made.
When any item on this page DOES get made, (and SonicGear gets some kind of retail confirmation/fan photo) it will leave this page and move away onto the page it belongs on.
(EX: a keychain appears here, gets produced, a fan buys it and mails SonicGear--that key chain will then leave this page and show up on the Key Chains page)
Anything that does/is getting made should have release date info near it if it is available, along with the company which should be producing it--to help you find it!

Tomy Proto 3 Pack Figures & Plush Assortment Photo At the start of 2017, Tomy released photos & art of many prototype items they want to produce for the year. Many are set to come out in fall 2017.
This page shows classic figure 3-packs that come with a ring that has a star in it (for some reason?) The bottom set is described as "pixelated figures" which also come with... pixelated versions of the rings.
The sets are an ok chance to get Tomy's classic trio if you missed it in 2016. The pixel figures are new, and represent the first time this has been tried with Sonic. The right-side page has their classic style plush Sonic & Tails (who both look up to classic standard) but then their modern Sonic is just terrible here. His spikes are in some wierd deformed crown shape & the face is poorly done too. Metal Sonic is never going to be a fabulous plush (robots=hard edges+square edges) but here he goes too.
The row below doesn't contain any plush at all. For some reason it has repeat of classic Sonic (illustrated by random laughin' Sonic stock art) classic Knuckles, so-labled "modern Shadow" (well yes....classic Shadow doesn't exist) & modern Tails. However, because it's just basically pictures they found of the characters, it demo's nothing but intent for any plush.
Did you like Sticks?
Too bad. If these images are correct, Tomy has 0 plans for any Sticks merchandise in 2017.

Tomy Prototype Clip on Cutie Emoji Sonic Knuckles Cute clips!
These are 'clip on flat figures', which means they're likely the layered quality rubber of previous keychain types. These are a cute idea, with Sonic & Knuckles doing various expressions in 'chibi' or 'sd' form. You can see happy, sleepy, love, worry, normal & 'cute' (Cute has the pupils shut) All these are real/photos.
Notice that the Knuckles looks normal, because you can't see his fists, the body is 'SD', & his shoes in Boom were fairly un-altered, this could go as either normal Knuckles or boomstyle.
Tomy Prototype Space Figures & Clips These pages finish off the clips by adding 2 Boom Tails & 1 sleepy Knuckles. (neither Tails is real, he's just art)
Space figures will appear! Apparently the next season of Sonic Boom has the gang going into space & wearing various space suits. You can see Sonic Tails & Knuckles in white space suits, then Sonic & Tails in variant black suits too. "Green Clothes Eggman" also appears (he showed up at a toyfair, but didn't release) There's also hi-spec (pearly) Sonic, Shadow & Eggman. This round also has badniks with a crab & moto-bug. The last item on the right page/bottom is a figure set pack. Notice that Sticks is completely absent in all prototypes here.
Tomy Prototype Vehicles & Plush Emoji Tomy carries their "emoji" theme into plushes with this page. The left page has more figures with vehicles. They bring back the rolling hover board for Sonic, but add a new "Egg-mobile" for Eggman. Both items come with the figure you see. The egg mobile will fly apart if you hit it on the button with the hover board.
The transforming bike item is the "Blue Force 1" which will appear in the show.
The plush here are cuter than the 'little big-heads' line they had before, with simplified expressions. They're still 'chibi styled', but weighted so they'll sit up. Notice that the last one isn't real.
Tomy prototype variant & modern Sonic figures This pair of pages finishes off the plush emoji dolls (neither the Sonic nor Knuckles here is real)
Figures of note:
Transparent classic Sonic & Tails. These don't take full advantage of the paint, while they color the insides of the ears & belly dot/face, they skip the gloves and shoes making them look a little strange.
Black/white/gray Sonic & Tails:
Much like the Japanese 'pale dolls', these are variants for variant-sake. They could be cool, if you really enjoy variant figures.
Tomy forays into modern Sonic! These figures will be their first non-Boom modern attempt.
If this catalog is correct, they will only sell as 2 packs with a classic figure & random issue of Archie Sonic Comic. The modern figures look decent so far, but remember: they don't have Jazwares level of articulation...at all. Notice also that the modern Tails & both Metal Sonic figures are just art.
Proto plush page.
More classic style Sonic & Tails dolls, which are decent with classic proportions & good coloring. This may be a different size.
The bottom half of the page shows their intent for modern Sonic & Metal Sonic plush...but again, it's just art and so is 0 indication of what anyone will get.
SA2 Prototype Plushes 2001 Now HERE's a great & really rare proto photo!
It's a catalog shot of the Sonic Adventure 2 big plushes from 2001. However, right away you can notice differences from the final dolls. The Hero chao isn't like the released one, Shadow has a strange-ish small mouth, Sonic's shoes may be somewhat different, Tails' eyes are a little smaller...but Rouge gets the most differences. Her wings have all kinds of 'fold' seams sewn into them, the eyelids/lash details are different & her mouth has what is likely a little embroidered lower lip detail on it. Prototypes of dolls aren't too common, Japan proto photos are even less common, & this is the only known shot of these dolls to exist. The plushes themselves may be 1 of a kind even, since they weren't released looking like this. It is special to see such a rare photo! Photo uncovered by PatMac
Knuckles Tee Ad Display Card This item is a sort of 'proto-prototype'.
It's a catalog card that's only intended for company consumption or display. It was created by Top Heavy Clothing to show the intention of a Knuckles Chaotix tee design they had in mind to make. The design alone is shown at left, how it would look on the tee is the center drawing & the Sonic modern logo at right, would likely appear elsewhere on the shirt. Note the water-mark. This shirt DID get made too! You can see it on USA Modern Clothing. It was well liked by fans for featuring the Chaotix & starring Knuckles. It is a fun and cool design for fans.
Ladies Fashion Prototype Classic Wear Here's another 'proto page' of stuff that seems likely to just be shown here, and then never got made. It's the "Ladies Fashion Accessories" page, and it has some decent ideas. There's a cap-sleeve gray tee with Sonic & Tails that has "old skool" as the slogan, a red thick-strap tank top with 'watermark' red Sonic face, a small fitted white tee with repeated full color Sonic Tails Knuckles stock arts & a strange kind of 'double shirt' that has a small/thin strappy loose white 'under shirt' style for the outside and a regular cap sleeve blue shirt fixed under it. Then, there's an "I'm outta here" getting ready to run Sonic tan flat wallet & a star-ring themed small fold over flap purse with zipper outer pocket.
It's all ok stuff, mostly because of the very different styles. Usually mens & women's Sonic tees are interchangable, but these take typical "Girls Only" shaped clothes like the tiny 'cap sleeve' and give a classic styled theme. But, because none of the art is neo-classic, it doesn't exactly feel fresh, either.
Mens Fashion & Accessories Page Right after the 'ladies' section above, is shown the men's stuff. They get a long sleeve sweatshirt with 'invisible Sonic' on it where he's not outlined, and fits into the blue of the shirt color itself. A long sleeve normal shirt wit Sonic & Tails (same as the girls above, only no slogan) a short sleeve giant-art getting ready to run Sonic black outline tee, & a small sleeve 'watermark' type shirt with all-navy blue Sonic on an off white background.
Also of note are the green hill shoes! These would be in men's sizes (so fits anyone) and are a flat canvas shoe with Sonic on one toe & Tails on the other in a GHZ background. These are fun, & shoes are always desired by lots of fans. Last is a messenger type shoulder bag with "Peeking Sonic" where they just hid most of his face behind the exterior pocket. Notice how the strap is decorated with rings. It would be one of the only 'decorated strap' bags.
This set of stuff has never been proven to have been released, either. It's rather a shame though because a sturdy fun bag for laptops & etc is always welcomed, as are shoes that fit other than little kids.
