Prototype Sonic Items Title
What about Sonic items that have not been made yet? Or things that NEVER got made?
It's time for prototypes & mock ups! All the things on this page are Sonic items which are NOT yet released, or are items which were NEVER released. If something doesn't ever get produced, it'll stay here forever, for you to see and read about it. Also included on the page are 'mock ups' which are not real items. They're an illustration created by a company to show what a final item would look like. Sometimes they're Photoshops, others are combination of art and photos. A mock up never becomes real itself...but the item it illustrates is often made.
When any item on this page DOES get made, (and SonicGear gets some kind of retail confirmation/fan photo) it will leave this page and move away onto the page it belongs on.
(EX: a keychain appears here, gets produced, a fan buys it and mails SonicGear--that key chain will then leave this page and show up on the Key Chains page)
Anything that does/is getting made should have release date info near it if it is available, along with the company which should be producing it--to help you find it!

Alcone Burger King SA1 Premiums Art Book Here's something really special!
This is a proposal book. It's basically an 'idea file' of propositions for various meal toys. Alcone (a company) made it at the request of Burger King. Burger King was planning on having a set of Sonic Adventure 1 themed meal toys to promote the game. However, none of them got made.
It's likely that nobody knows why it didn't get done...but you can see the whole book by either clicking on, or downloading the PDF. Burger King Sonic 1 Book .
It should open in whatever PDF reader you have if you just click the link. You should probably save the book too because there may be only one of it. The usual comments, explanations, and typed bits from their little notes appear inside the PDF just like they would here on any page of Gear. Lost World Promo Bag Proto Art This is the promotional art / prototype art for a bag to promot Sonic Lost World. It's probably supposed to be one of those rip-stop light-canvas type bags (re-usable shopping bag type) It could be a Japan pre-order bonus type thing. It's a simple enough concept, all blue bag with white Sonic running toward rings sihlouette in white. It looks nice, but will the bag get made?
Top Heavy Tees Rectangle Art Idea Here's something a little odd, a prototype t-shirt! This is Top Heavy Tees design for a 4 character portrait shirt. Each portrait is done only in dark & light versions of that characters' main color. The rectangles are tiled onto the front of a black tee. However, this shirt never got made. That's a bit of a shame too, because the design is creative & there isn't another shirt that looked like it. You can tell what's going on / that it's a prototype when you see the water mark
(across the art there), the checkered (very pale gray) photoshop background for the mock up tee & the graphic for what their cloth tag would have looked like for this shirt.
Nanco Nancy Rhode Island Novelty Knuckles Prize Nanco Nancy Rhode Island Novelty makes prize-only plushes for arcades & fairs. Here's a fairly large size Knuckles plush that apparently never got made. It can be found at their site (for a while) but then is always marked "unavailable". This may just be a prototype they made & then never released.
He's got some errors too, like the eyes are clearly gray & not purple, as well as the completely missing shoe soles. Those aren't the only flaws though, as you can spot overly small, shrivelled fists & a kind of poor expression. Freebie / prize items don't always look the best, but items with errors still shouldn't make it. Will this ever be corrected & produced? Photo discovered by PatMac
CG Shadow & Rouge ReSaurus Prototypes Normally, CG images or prototype game shots can't get into Gear Prototypes , because it is for physical items. However, these 2 shots are different. They are CG, but they are what was given to ReSaurus at a very early point, before Sonic Adventure 2 Battle so the company would know what the characters would look like to make toys of them. ReSaurus was originally also supposed to make Super Sonic as well, but the company went out of business before they could produce the line of figures these were supposed to be on. They had code-names too "Terios" and "Nails". You can see a video at Unproduced Toys to learn more too! Photo discovered by The Ultimate Hedgehog & video found by Taaron.
Playstation Battle Royale Shadow Proto
Battle Royale for Playstation seems likely to have been a game trying to cash in on some multi-franchise-combining "Smash Brothers" like action. At one point, it was rumored that they wanted to do a toy line to promote the game with display figures. Also, here to bend the rule of prototypes again, is CG Shadow.
He was meant to be a DLC special character for the game, but he got scrapped when something went wrong during development. Here, you can see some unfinished sprites of how he would have looked. The top one isn't lit / final, while the bottom one is totally uncolored. They do look good though, and the character probably could have been interesting to have in the game. It's also kind of too bad that figures weren't done as well. (Though Smash Brothers is set to get figures, which will probably lead to a Sonic one at some point, as part of that line. 10 Inch Metal Sonic Box Here's a picture of JUST the box for the upcoming 10 Inch Metal Sonic Jazwares figure. It should be noted that there is no figure inside, that's just a piece of art that they have photoshopped into it to give you an idea of where the figure will fit. Inner packing isn't shown either. The box looks like a decent enough one, with mostly clear sides with card corners and solid back. If this does end up as the final release box, hopefully they're treated well as this figure promises to be highly collectible, and the large windowing can be a bit touchy. Photo discovered by JShedgehog but aquired by Visiontoys.

The final box did NOT end up matching this box, so this photo will always remain a 'prototype' since the box itself was never produced looking like this. Want to see the real box? Its on Jazwares General.

Sonic & Black Knight Sword Plush The 2nd Jazwares plush has been discovered. They have chosen to do a Sonic & Black Knight themed plush instead of just a normal Sonic one. However, this one is less impressive than their Werehog plush (above)
The only thing that makes it "SBK" is the cardboard (or possibly plastic) sword. Why not the gauntlet too? The toy has it, the game has it, and it's just 'normal Sonic' with a tack-on otherwise. Could they have just used gray fabric for the glove? Yes, and that would be better than nothing at all. The proportions are ok looking, and he's not floppy or doughey. The fabric looks to be a 'fuzzier' type than is generally used but it could work. The face is all right, if a tad cross-eyed and with tiny ears. It could also be the angle so more photos will have to appear for a real determination. Discovered by JSHedgehog and ToughNerd
Gaya Classic Squeeze Keychains Gaya Entertainment has sent to SonicGear another press release. This one states they're expanding their classic Sonic license to include squeezable figures. As you can see here, it's more of their concept art, and not actual items. When the actual items appear, these images will move to the appropriate page (Germany)
The toys and keychains all feature the same figures in the same poses. They're also all likely made of the same stuff, a squeezable foam. The figures are 10cm, and are boxed, the keychains are 6cm & carded. These should be available starting in MAY. This does look like a cute set to collect, hopefully they'll be easy to get. Info and concept arts by Gaya Entertainment.
Gaya Squeezee Sonic Toys in Box
These will be sold in comic book stores and specialty shops. In Europe (So, multiple countries hopefully with a base in Germany) the prices should be 9.99 Euro SRP for the Squeezee figures and 5.99 Euro SRP for the Squeezee keychains.
Prototype ReSaurus Knuckles Even ReSaurus had prototype figures. These early shots of their Knuckles and Giant Talking Sonic figure show different paint jobs, which, fortunately for everyone were fixed before release. Knuckles has awful near-sideways goat eyes (What IS IT WITH THAT? Similar awful mistakes keep getting made down through the years with ToyIsland Super Posers being the latest example) The Sonic has his eye down in his...lower face part-way as well as being somewhat tilted which also makes him look bad. You can see how these really turned out on the regular ReSaurus figure pages. These photos will remain here forever as the figures were never produced this way, and the company is out of business. Photos discovered by Berzerker. Prototype Paint Giant Talking Sonic
Prototype Note Only: Eggman was planned to be released on one of their lines. Their 3rd line was to contain Super Sonic and also Rouge the Bat, but they went out of business before anything was ever produced.

*Interesting prototype art link for ReSaurus is Resident Lilly. This artist seems to have worked with ReSaurus trying to make the Eggman figure & other production sketches. They went out of business, but the artist apparently got to keep their own work on it & has hosted it at DeviantArt if this is actually the real deal. Discovered by Berzerker

Bendy Figure Pack & Chao
Bendy Mini Figure Pack & Chao by Toy Island
These are labeled "Collectible Figures" but it looks like they never came out. You get Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Big and a Chao. The Chao, as you'll recognize, is actually from the initial release of their 6 inch line Tails, they're just re-packing it here. The mini figures may either be bendies or very similar to the "Figures & Keychains" minis that came with one of the numerous re-releases of the 6 inch line. This would have been a good way to get them all at once...but it never appeared. Photo discovered by larryinc64
Unpainted 5 Inch Prototype Classic Here's the unpainted photo for JW's classic Sonic, but in the 5 inch scale. You can see they've put this one together properly. The details look nice for the fists & face. The legs & arms look well jointed & quite straight, as they should be. You can catch in the corner of this photo their odd 'fuzzy Sonic' complete with fuzz. Photo discovered by SonikkuA Classic Style Sonic & Amy Comic Pack Here's a closer look at the classic style Sonic & Amy Comic 2-pack. Interestingly, it will come with a modern issue (#226) of the Archie comic instead of a (more appropriate) older issue. Discovered by RagnaBlade
Wacky wobbler prototype box
This is how the Sonic Wacky Wobbler Bobble Head ORIGINALLY appeared. Before it was actually released though, they changed the art on the box, AND changed the colors of the checkering on the base. The new/released version is not a mix-up as this one seems to be.
The box has very classic art on it, with 2 classic stock Sonics, the old checker design, and a ring, plus the old style logo. However, the toy itself is modern, with longer legs and green eyes. (the neck can't be taken into account, as it IS a bobblehead) It's supposed to resemble the classic art at the bottom, but it doesn't. The base even goes so far as to look Sonic 1 style, with the grass and brown checkering.
