Japan Sonic the Hedgehog School Supplies
Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog School Supplies Page 7
School supplies fun & useful neat to collect. They didn't tend to be all that rare, or expensive, and you can use them to make Sonic projects at home too. They also offer such a wide range of different and interesting Sonic theme things. Japan in the present and in the past probably still has the most items in this catagory. While the things here may be more difficult to collect, they're usually high quality and interesting to see. Because a lot of them are small, you'll see lots of different characters too, not just Sonic.

Sanrio Metal Pen Case Space Sonic Theme Here is a metal pen case by Sanrio (yes the Hello kitty company) It has a theme of Sonic in Space by the artist from the 'screen saver Sonic'. The top, inside AND bottom, are all decorated with Sonic imagry. The top has the space scene, the interior has it too, but split into 'photos' with little white borders, and the bottom has the Segasonic logo, with Sonic & Tails regular stock art of them just standing. Otherwise, the case is black with rounded corners. A good, sturdy and stylish case for school! Photo discovered by @JapanAnimePosters on Instagram
Sonic & Tails Mini Cute Pencil Toppers Here are some cute little pencil toppers. These figural toppers are 'little' chibi type Sonic & Tails. They're fully 3D, and the pencils' top goes in their feet. Each character is fairly smoothed/rounded by being short, so they're not too unweildy for use. The pencils themselves are also themed, orange for Tails & blue for Sonic, with their names & geometric designs. Photo discovered by @JapanAnimePosters on Instagram
2 Red Pens Eyes-Only Sonic Design Here are 2 different styles of retractable red pens. They're both from the period where the "Sonic Eyes Only" design was really popular. The top pen is mostly matte, with black itallic print for the "Segasonic"
word, and the 2nd pen has a soft rubber grip with shiny/semi-transparent red top. It has white Segasonic lettering & the "Eyes Only" graphic in the "X" shape. Quite a few items were made with eyes-only, sometimes just the eyes, and the rest, just the eyes in a thick "X", so these pens fit right in. Photo discovered by: @JapanAnimePosters on Instagram
MIP SA1 Post Card Blue Dreamcast A mint in the package post card!
This could be in a clear wrapper because it's actually a set of multiple post cards...or...someone could have just shrink-wrapped a single card. It's a Sonic Adventure 1 promoting item, with the logo 'watermarked' really big on the back along with the Dreamcast logo. The front has that 'circular walking' sort of odd Sonic popularized via SA1 promoting, the Life of Power quote (small) above his name. It's otherwise pretty plain.
Tombo Sonic vs Metal Sonic Pencils HB
This is a pack of Tombo wooden pencils.
It's another item from their "Sonic vs Metal Sonic" themed period that happened somewhat after the time of Sonic CD. The box features the really nice fully shaded art of glowing punch Sonic & flying Metal Sonic. The pencils are all plain wood with a pearly white coating. Each one is the same. None have erasers built in. (That is common on Japanese pencils, for whatever reason--they seem to expect you to add your own cap eraser or use a separate block one) The pencils have little arts for Sonic, the logo, Tails & Knuckles. "HB" that you see there on the box top & pencil is a description for the type of lead. This set is in the SonicGear collection. Photo and owned by: @JapanAnimePosters on Instagram
Mini Bags Subtle Embroidery Here are some small bags with many pockets.
Are they camera bags? Whatever they're for, they're very subtle, though. Each has a small embroidered Sonic component going on. The top bag has 'arms crossed' Sonic in a sunburst type circle of dark blue. The bottom bag is a tad less subtle, with pointing modern Sonic and his name spelled out in 'funky' chunky block letters. The shoulder strap pad thing there also has a Sonic logo, but it's striped through with color making it a little harder to read. Depending the actual size of the bags, the top one's portait could maybe be the size of a coin. For subtle items, Japan is usually first in line on making them, and these certainly rank among the top 'slightly Sonic' designs. Discovered by @JapanAnimePosters on Instagram
Sonic Adventure 1 Joypolis Letter Set
This is a "Joypolis Original Letter Set"
But, what exactly does that mean? It's made for Sonic Adventure 1, and came out right around the time of the game. It uses the 'circle strange walking Sonic' graphic pretty much everywhere: front cover, back cover as line art and inside too. It has the 'no regrets / go own way' quote written around the graphic, and, interestingly uses texture to add the word "Sonic" in black on the black background.
The 'set' appears to be a folder of some kind, with two compartments for stuff. Was it stationary and envelopes? Post cards? Did it have stickers or notes or something? Discovered by @JapanAnimePosters on Instagram
Sonic Heroes Bag & Pencil Case Set Here are 3 uncommon bags!
These are part of the "Heroes Pack", a specific set of limited-edition bonus items for Sonic Heroes Japan release. There's a large dark blue tote bag with Sonic, smaller red bag with Kunckles & pencil pouch (cylender bag) with zip to that has Tails on it. Each character is a white sihlouette made from a CG pose.
What's the pose? The same one they use as CG art for the Heroes Pack 3 pin-button set. (On Japan Pins here at Gear). So, this merchandise matches. Because they were limited-quantity & only released with the game, this set of bags is quite uncommon. Photo & owned by: Jalen Castillo
Next Level Red Breifcase Style Bag Here's a red 'breifcase style' canvas Sonic school bag. It's a bit of an old-fashion design (rather than the usual backpack) & is genuinely from the 1990s in Japan. It has a red thick carry handle for the top &
big Sonic art by Naoto Oshima on the front with some rings. The SegaSonic logo is down one edge, while "Welcome to the next level" slogan is in gray at the bottom. Notice that they added the score / rings / time display in green at the upper right corner. The back has adjustable straps. When you open it, you can see the squeeze clips that keep it shut & that it has a plaid pocket inerior. It also has a student ID holder, 3 dividers inside & a zip pocket.
The material is really sturdy & thick nylon canvas type stuff. The bag is thought to be from 1991. The inset has the small plush Sonic sitting near the bag and it is on top of the deluxe Mania bonus box, so you can tell how big it is. Photos & owned by: Sonic Miner
Sonic Forces Japan Calendar 2018 Here's something that hasn't been seen in a while: A Calendar.
Japan used to be really big on Sonic calendars...and, they are a good idea because who doesn't want an excuse to look at Sonic every day? This is most likely a special promotional calendar that was available at Japan 7-11 stores. It might have been a "buy and get", or maybe even a win-able. It's one of those large single page types with all the months just small at the bottom.
The top has "2018 Calendar" (in English, for some reason) & the middle is divided between the hero side at the top, with Sonic & heroes, while the logo and a line splits it. The bottom has the villains which include Metal Sonic, Chaos 0, Zavok, Shadow, Eggman, and of course, Infinite. There doesn't seem to be anything 'Sonic' about the calendar part itself there at the bottom. However, even when it goes out of date, it becomes a decorative poster. Because it wasn't technically 'sold in stores', but is instead a promo, it is likely to be uncommon.
3 Mystery Folders Classics Supposedly, these are folders.
Or, they could be 'binder divider' pages of some sort. However, there are no 3-ring holes to indicate either way. They are pretty much sure to be a school supply, though. The first is a fully shaded standing/arms crossed Sonic, the next is the famous (for being cool) fully shaded Sonic vs Metal Sonic that came out with Sonic CD & got onto absolute bunches of Japanese stuff, but then never really appeared elsewhere (a shame because
the art was so cool to see especially in that era) and the third has Sonic & Knuckles and some kind of small...chart? This is all the larger the photo ever was. It is from a now defunct small collection site that closed in 2014 or so. You can write in for credit if you can clear up what these are. Photo by Hikari/SITE
6 Note Pads Booklets Here are what's probably 6 note pads.
Or booklets of some kind. Two are shaped/die-cut. The top seems to have a rounded area with a color Sonic in it, and the bottom is shaped like the outline of the ring/ribbon Sonic appears in. The top two have a line art portrait for Sonic on one, and Tails on the other. The Segasonic one IS a notebook for sure, which appears elsewhere on School Gear with it's details. But what's the middle one too? It has lots of detail, but the photo is pretty small to tell what's going on with it. You can write in for credit if you can clear up what these are. Team Sonic Racing Post Card Set
A cool big set!
This set of portrait post cards comes from the big bonus pack that came with Team Sonic Racing game in 2019. Each colorful card features a racer character standing beside their custom car. They also have their name/color on the ground under them. The art is all CG, right from the games, and the character is posed differently for each.
It's a great set, perfect to collect or display. (Maybe in a frame on the wall?)
You can get Eggman, Zavok, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, E Omega, Amy, the chao team in their car, Big, Blaze, Silver, Vector & Metal Sonic. (Interesting car choice for Metal Sonic, he copies Sonic's car too, but it looks a little different)
At left is the back of the post cards, they all look the same on the back. It's plain blue (for writing) and has the Game's logo & indicator of where to put the stamp. It' unlikely that any of these are actually meant to be sent, they're more like a large size collector card set. It's a perfect thing to offer as a bonus pack with the game, colorful, easy to collect & display & pleases everyone by featuring every character and car with quality art.
